Rosemount Swimming Has Big Day At State

The Irish's 200 medley relay picked up the top seed at Friday's preliminary meet.

The Rosemount boys swimming and diving team was well-represented at Friday’s Class AA state preliminary meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, earning one first place finish and sending individuals and relays on to Saturday’s state finals.

The Irish were led by the 200 medley relay team, consisting of Braden McCormack, Jacob Stern, Luke Dowell and Conor Manning. The team finished prelims as the top seed heading into Saturday’s championship heat.

Stern also finished second overall in the 100 breastroke, earning All-America Consideration for his 58.35 second performance. Edina’s Max Cartwright won the event with a state-record 55.44 showing.

The 200 freestyle relay will also compete in the championship heat Saturday. Dowell, David Baker, Stern and Manning finished the race in 1:27.47.

The top eight finishers in each preliminary race advance to Saturday’s championship heat, while those who finish ninth through 16th will compete in the consolation heat.
