Rosemount's Adam Jackson Finishes Second At State

The junior exceeded his expectations at Saturday's state meet

Rosemount junior Adam Jackson simply wanted to make state this season.

Not only did he make it, he made it a state to remember.

Jackson went 3-1 at this year’s Class AAA state meet at the Xcel Energy Center, taking home a runner-up finish at the 152-pound weight class.

The lone wrestler to get in his way? Apple Valley’s Destin McCauley—a five-time state champion ranked No. 1 in the nation. Jackson lost by fall in 59 seconds.

“To place second, that’s amazing,” Jackson said. “I’m so proud of myself, and that just shows that all my hard work in the offseason is paying off.”

Jackson entered Saturday’s championship semifinal with a 2-0 record from Friday’s competition. Shaking off the nervousness of his first state tournament, Jackson continued to thrive in St. Paul with a win over Cambridge-Isanti’s Cody Glines 12-7.

“I started to think after my first match that I’m wrestling pretty good,” Jackson said. “So if I keep wrestling like this, I can get there.”

His luck ran out against McCauley, who quickly took control of the championship match and won his fifth state title.

“It’s a different mentality you have to have,” Jackson said of preparing to face Apple Valley’s standout wrestler. “I wrestled a little differently when I wrestled him.”

Still, Jackson was able to stand on the championship podium Saturday night—something he didn’t necessarily expect.

“I was psyched,” he said. “My goal this year was to go to state, and to place second? That’s amazing.”
