Graph Compares MN COVID-19 Death Rates Based On Vaccine Status

An updated graph shows how many fully vaccinated Minnesotans have died from COVID-19 compared to those not fully vaccinated.

ACROSS MINNESOTA — The COVID-19 vaccines continue to show effectiveness against the virus in Minnesota, even as cases surge across the state. "Breakthrough" cases of COVID-19 that lead to hospilizations or death continue to be extremely rare.

A breakthrough case is when someone tests positive for the virus after being fully vaccinated. People who contracted COVID-19 before being vaccinated are not included in the number of breakthrough cases.

"COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough cases are identified by actively matching Minnesota case records with Minnesota vaccination records," the Minnesota Department of Health states.
