Valley Lake Girl Scouts Day of Service Planned for Oct. 13
Girls Scouts are seeking 350 volunteers to work at three sites in the area of Garden View Drive.

Valley Lake Girl Scouts will be clearing out storm sewer grills to prevent lawn and other debris from polluting our ponds and lakes. This project is a part of a larger 187 community project covering large portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The larger project goals include prevention of 10,000,000 pounds of algae growth by the the removal of 20,000 pounds of phosphorous from organic materials, saving an estimated $6 million in water clean-up across the two states.

The Valley Lake Girl Scouts are seeking 350 volunteers to work at three sites in the area of Garden View Drive. Volunteers should meet at Westview Elementary School between 8:30 and 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, for registration. Volunteers will be assigned to a group and will work between 9 and 11 a.m. At 11 a.m., there will be a celebration rally at Alimagnet Park.
Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, rake, and broom. Activity includes raking and bagging materials removed from the storm grates, marking the storm drains, and providing informational door hangers to residents.
