Woman Killed, Alcohol Involved In Valentine's Day Crash: Police

The Dakota County crash killed a 49-year-old woman who was not wearing her seat belt, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

DAKOTA COUNTY, MN — A 49-year-old passenger was killed on Valentine's Day in Dakota County as a result of a single-car crash. The Minnesota State Patrol says alcohol was involved in the fatal Thursday night incident.

According to police, at 11:18 p.m. a Ford F-150 — driven by Michael James Serres, 53, of Hampton — was traveling eastbound on Highway 50 in Douglas Township when the truck went into a ditch and rolled near Inga Avenue.

The passenger — Terri Lynn Stephenson, 49, of Hampton — was not wearing a seat belt, authorities said. She did not survive the crash.

Serres was transported to North Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the incident, police said.

Another fatal crash took place Thursday night in nearby Goodhue County moments earlier.

Scott Theodore Friedrich, a 58-year-old resident of Cannon Falls, died when his Chrysler was northbound on State Highway 56 and lost control, causing the car to enter a ditch and roll.

Friedrich was not wearing his seat belt, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Alcohol was not involved in that crash, police said.
