• Big Lake family displaced after house fire kills dog (hometownsource.com) — A Big Lake family of five is temporarily homeless after a Sept. 20 garage fire on Minnesota Avenue destroyed vehicles, heavily damaged their house, and killed their dog. Neighbors and friends have launched a GoFundMe to help with housing and essentials while the family stays with relatives and waits on insurance, and fire officials are urging residents to check alarms and practice simple fire-safety steps.
   

• Catherine M. Denzer (ingstadmedia.com) — Big Lake is mourning the passing of 96-year-old resident Catherine M. Denzer, who died peacefully on September 14. Family and friends can honor her life at a memorial Mass on October 3 in Le Sueur, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery and a luncheon, celebrating her decades devoted to raising her family and working in their restaurant and local industry.
