Burnsville Company Involved In Fatal I-94 Crash: Report

Police said the Hennepin County Attorney's Office will review the crash investigation for possible charges.

ROGERS, MN — Authorities say a construction worker was killed and another was injured Tuesday in a crash on Interstate 94 in the northwest metro. The fatal collision occurred just after 2 p.m. in Rogers.

The semi driver involved reportedly works for a Burnsville company. Tate R. Doom, 47, of St. Paul Park is an employee of Vermeer Of Minnesota, according to the the Star Tribune.

"This crash was preventable," Patrol Lt. Tiffani Nielson told the newspaper. "When the investigation is complete, it will be sent to Hennepin County Attorney's Office for review for possible charges," she added.

A Ford F-150 with a trailer was traveling Tuesday afternoon eastbound on I-94 approaching County Road 81 in Rogers. A Kenworth truck, driven by Doom, was traveling behind it.

Authorities say when the F-150 slowed for traffic, it was rear-ended by the Kenworth.

The F-150 spun into the construction lane, striking two station vehicles, police said. The F-150 and its trailer also struck two pedestrians in the construction area, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Worker Vernon Carl Hedquist, 59, of Pillager died at the scene.

Another worker, Thomas John Wood, 64, of Maple Grove suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to Maple Grove Hospital.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, police said.
