Burnsville Hydrant Flushing To Begin Next Week

Burnsville city crews will begin flushing all city-owned fire hydrants starting next week.

BURNSVILLE, MN — Burnsville city crews will begin flushing all city-owned fire hydrants on Monday, April 10, 2017 (weather permitting). Flushing is should conclude by mid-May. Crews will flush hydrants from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Flushing may also take place on weekends. City hydrants are flushed on a regular basis to ensure they are working properly for fire protection and to remove mineral deposits that may accumulate in water mains, according to a news release.

Change in Water Color

The change in water flow during hydrant flushing may stir up mineral deposits. It is not unusual to periodically experience discolored water, pressure changes and/or an increased chlorine odor during flushing.

Visible iron coloration in water is not a health issue, but may impact the aesthetic quality. If you notice discolored water, correct the problem by opening all cold water faucets in your home and allow them to run at the same time until the water runs clear.

During hydrant flushing, please check the color of your water prior to doing laundry. Discolored water may stain clothes – particularly whites. Rust remover is available from the Burnsville Maintenance Facility, 13713 Frontier Court.
