Burnsville Man Who Stabbed Woman With Scissors: 'I’m Sorry'

BURNSVILLE, MN — Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom announced that Terrell James Pleasant, age 40 of Burnsville, pled guilty Thursday to attempted murder in the second degree (with intent to kill) in connection with injuries suffered by a woman, age 42, with whom he had been residing.

Judge Joseph Carter sentenced Pleasant to 210 months in prison. On May 6, 2017, at the home of the victim, Pleasant stabbed her multiple times with a scissor in her side and neck after he told the victim: "You’re gonna die."

The victim was also punched in the face and choked during this attack, according to authorities. The victim’s daughter arrived home at approximately 8:00 p.m. and found her mother covered in blood. The victim told her daughter that Pleasant had threatened to kill her and was trying to do so, according to a news release.

In the early hours of May 7, 2017, police officers located Pleasant’s vehicle parked close to the residence. During his arrest he stated: "I’m sorry for what I did." Read more about the case.

Backstrom commented in a statement: "This is another tragic example of domestic violence in our community. We are pleased to have brought this man to justice for this violent crime." Backstrom expressed his hope for her continued recovery. Backstrom praised Assistant County Attorney Amy Schaffer who prosecuted this case.
