As part of the agreement, revenue collected from the leasing of additional fiber capacity will be shared 50/50 between the City and Frontier Communications.

Operational since 2009, Burnsville’s fiber network interconnects municipal utility and related governmental facilities. The network is currently used primarily for connecting and monitoring the City’s well and pumping stations.

Under the agreement, the fiber network will remain the property of the City of Burnsville.

“The agreement is a great example of government and businesses working together,” Frontier general manager in the south metro Holly Dahl said in the statement.
