Former Burnsville Teacher Arrested Again For Contacting Mount Olivet Church Teen
One of the conditions of the former Burnsville teacher's release was that he have no contact with minors under 18, county officials said.
Former Burnsville High School teacher Erik Michael Akervik, 29, who was previously charged with having sex with a 16-year-old student and sending nude photos of himself to another student, has been arrested for violating his conditions of release. Akervik posted bail following his initial court appearance and was released from the Dakota County jail. One of the conditions of his release was that he have no contact with minors under the age of 18, according to county officials.
It came to the attention of the Burnsville Police Department last weekend that on April 26, Akervik contacted a 15-year-old male on Instagram, according to authorities. Akervik asked the male to follow him (Akervik) on Instagram, police say. Authorities say the 15-year-old is known to Akervik through Mount Olivet Church.
After Akervik was first charged last month, a pastor at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis told church members that church youth have come forward with additional allegations against Akervik, the Pioneer Press reported. Akervik worked part time directing a children’s choir at Mount Olivet.
