Local Artists Follow Their Muse to Burnsville Exhibit
Follow the Muse will feature works of unusual mediums and textures

A trio of talented local artists will be shown at an exhibit that started last Friday. The program, titled Follow the Muse, features the artwork of K. Daphnae Koop, Marc Clements, and Ingrid Restemayer. It will be featured at the Burnsville Performing Art Center through Sept. 3
Each of the three artists work out of studios in the Northrup-King building in the northeast part of Minneapolis, said Alejandra Pelinka, art gallery director for BPAC.
“Each of the artists is unique,” said Pelinka. “We haven’t had anything like this here. We’ve had a lot of 2D displays, but this year I wanted to get into mediums that people haven’t been exposed to as much.”

Follow the Muse includes intricate artwork inspired by unusual source materials including carved wood, contemporary tribal tattoos, and the plains of North Dakota. In coming up with their pieces, the artists used mediums such as repurposed wood and glass, stone, and fiber.
“The theme is all about texture,” said Pelinka, who is in the process of leaving BPAC and becoming executive director of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (future BPAC shows will be organized by a committee). “The body of work of these three artists is very interesting. You can tell all three have developed their own style; each piece has something to say and can stand on its own.”

Pelinka said she first met Koop during a gallery tour several years ago and was struck “not only the aesthetic quality of her work, but also the craftsmanship.” Conversations with her led to meetings with Clements and Restemeyer.
“Their work goes well together,” said Pelinka. “They use different mediums and styles, but they both explore the textures of the pieces they do.”
The art gallery at the BPAC is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The gallery is closed on Sunday. For more information, click here.
