Police say the reported attempted abduction of an 11-year-old boy in Burnsville turned out to be a false alarm.

Burnsville police say that the reported attempted abduction of an 11-year-old boy in Burnsville turned out to be a false alarm.
At about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, the Burnsville Police Department responded to a report of an attempted abduction in the area of River Hills Drive and Clark Street in Burnsville.
An 11-Year-Old boy was walking his dog when he said he was approached by the suspect. The boy fled the scene and called his mother, who then called police.

The boy also reported that the man asked him what kind of dog he was walking, and then asked him to get in the vehicle with his dog.
Upon seeing the report in a local newspaper, the individual who identified himself as the subject in
the report contacted the Burnsville Police Department.

Upon further investigation, the department does not believe the individual had malicious intent when speaking with the boy, and that there is no ongoing risk to the public.
"Even though this specific incident turned out to be non-criminal in nature, the boy who reported the encounter absolutely did the right thing," said Burnsville Police Chief Eric Gieseke in a statement.
"Any time something seems strange or out of place, it should be reported. If you see something, say
something."
