Rep. Jason Lewis 'Disappointed' AHCA Didn't Get A Vote

Minnesota Congressman Jason Lewis was one of the most vocal supporters of the Republican health care bill.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Minnesota's Second District Congressman Jason Lewis, one of the most vocal supporters of the Republican's health care plan, was disappointed the American Health Care Act (ACHA) did not get a vote last week.

Republicans on Friday killed their own legislation to overhaul the nation's healthcare system after failing to win enough votes for passage despite pleas, threats and proposed deals from President Trump, whose intense and high-profile lobbying effort ended in a publicly naked failure.

“Obamacare is the law of the land,” House Speaker Paul Ryan said after canceling a floor vote on the bill when he concluded it would fail. “It’s going to remain the law of the land until it’s replaced.”

He and other Republicans, including the president, acknowledged they have no current plans to try again.

Republican Lewis, who already voted for the bill in committee, said he will continue to push for health care legislation.

Jason Lewis Votes For AHCA: "I’m proud to be keeping my promise to start real health care reform"

"Though I'm disappointed the House will not be voting today, I also understand the decision and remain committed to helping enact real health care reform," Lewis said in a statement.

"Now, more than ever, Washington needs a dose of political courage. Many times the easiest thing in politics is to do nothing, but that is not why I ran for Congress," he continued.

"While it's now apparent some prefer the status quo, I will continue my work towards restoring markets, lowering premiums and increasing health care access for Minnesotans."
