Humane Society Launches Legacy Program (lakesarearadio.net) — Detroit Lakes residents are invited to a free June 17 lunchtime session at the VFW to learn about the Humane Society of the Lakes’ new “Tails of Tomorrow” legacy program and long-term pet care planning. The shelter also urgently needs donations of wet kitten food and wet adult dog food as kitten season ramps up.

2. Detroit Lakes community garden full as people return for growing season (dl-online.com) — Detroit Lakes’ community garden across from Snappy’s is officially full for the 2026 growing season, with all 27 plots claimed by 18 local families. Master Gardener volunteers and the city are expanding amenities, adding deer fencing, water access, and more plots, while encouraging residents to grow food, connect with neighbors, and possibly gather for a future garden potluck.

3. Detroit Lakes man injured in two-vehicle crash on Highway 59 (dl-online.com) — A Detroit Lakes man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon at Highway 59 and Highway 34 on the city’s west side. State Patrol reports both drivers and a child passenger were belted, alcohol is not suspected, and local police and EMS assisted at the scene.

4. Tuesday's local scoreboard for June 2 (grandforksherald.com) — Detroit Lakes boys golf turned in a strong team showing in Bemidji, posting a 583 total and sweeping the top four individual spots, led by Lawsen Justesen’s 141. The roundup also lists dozens of other regional golf, baseball, and softball results from Tuesday’s action.

5. Ask A Trooper: New school bus law (hometownsource.com) — Minnesota drivers now must stop at least 20 feet away whenever a school bus’s red lights are flashing, even if the stop arm isn’t fully extended. This statewide safety change is explained by State Patrol Trooper Jesse Grabow, who’s based in Detroit Lakes and invites residents to send him local traffic-law questions.
