Ambassadors Receive Star of the North Award in Recognition of Volunteer Efforts
Eagan Funfest Ambassador Ashley McCann Sees How Volunteering Makes a Difference in the Community

Being an Eagan Ambassador comes with a lot of new and exciting experiences and the Star of the North Award Ceremony was one of them. All the Ambassadors got a certificate for their volunteering hours with a lot of other people and groups. It was amazing to see kids getting these awards. One little girl was only in kindergarten and got one for organizing backpack and school supplies (she was sooo cute)! When I look back at volunteering my favorite event was the Holtz Farm in the fall because later in the day I got to help with the mini-tractors. I would help push the kids around and even got to ride them myself. My second favorite event was the Senior Prom when we got to mingle and dance with the residents at Commons on Marice and I got to dance with the Prom Queen from 2 years ago. But what I remember most is that it showed me that volunteering can be fun and make a difference to people young and old.
At the Star of the North Award Ceremony we got to meet and take a picture with Congressman John Kline. I thought that was very fun as I got to meet him 2 years ago at his office in Washington DC when I got a tour with my mother, grandmother, and sister of the Capital Building. I know he did not recognize me, but I thought it was great! I also found it very special as this is his last time presenting awards at the North Award Ceremony as he is not running for re-election and I received the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition Award from him. I am really happy I got this award as not only was a recognized, but I got to see how many other people young and old also volunteer and makes me want to do more.
