Convertibles are a big hit along with ducks?

Avery Ward gives us her take on recent adventures as an Eagan Funfest Ambassador

Hi, I’m Avery Ward and I’m an Eagan Funfest Ambassador. My first month and a half as an Ambassador has been great. It has been a blast being in all of the parades and coronations with my fellow Ambassadors. This last Saturday I was in the St. Paul Park Heritage Days Parade.

The Heritage Days Parade was the funnest parade I have been in yet. One of the reasons for this was that this was our first parade that we got to ride on the backs of convertibles! Just a shout out to all of the wonderful drivers, Mike Ferber, Laurie Turner, and Butch and Donna Brandt (Mia’s Grandma and Grandpa). On top of riding in convertibles (no pun intended), it was also the perfect weather outside. It started out a little cool and cloudy, but by the time the parade started it was gorgeous. I know this already sounds like it can’t get any better but it did. It was our first event wearing our formal gowns (and suit)! The look on the little girls faces when they saw the “princesses” was indescribable.

Before the parade we went around and talked to the other royalty there. We met for the first time, Oakdale, and we had a nice time catching up with Cottage Grove. After that we chatted with the Klondike Kates who were there. There were 6! That’s the most I’ve ever seen! At this point we were quite a bit away from our rides and decided to go back. As we were turning around we spotted pet ducks! Someone had pet ducks in their backyard and they were adorable. This sparked up a conversation on how we all planned on convincing our parents to get us pet ducks when we got home. After the parade Tami Giles opened an impromptu sewing shop in the middle of the street for my dress. Don’t worry, nothing was glaringly wrong, it just needed to be brought up a little bit.

All in all it was a lot of fun, and like I said earlier the best parade I’ve ever been in, and I hope the ambassadors next year have as much fun there as we did. I am also super excited for our next parade, The Burnsville Fire Muster.

Thanks for reading!
