Eagan Funfest Ambassadors in the Community: Fundraising and Assitive Dog Organization

Ambassador Ashley McCann Blogs about Experiences while Bagging Groceries at Cub Foods and a Visit to Can Do Canines

This is Ashley McCann reporting for my second BLOG as an Eagan Fun Feast Ambassador. Time has just flown by. My last event was bagging groceries at Cub. It was super fun meeting people. One of the people I was bagging for said “it was like I won the lottery for some sale I did not hear and us bagging”. It is little things like those that make me smile. Plus a little fact about Sylvia she is an amazingly fast bagger. All the girls and I got told that we would be a future Miss Minnesota or Miss America; that was unexpected. There were also these 2 little girls who kept looking at us calling us princesses; hearing this is surreal; you get to be called a princess while doing community service. Lilly’s father was helping to bag (he bagged when he was younger), he saw a friend so he told me to say “eggs and bread on the bottom” cause they have a joke about bagging, as in the past bagged his friends eggs and bread on the bottom. Break time was fun as I got fried chicken drumsticks from Cub Food Deli, eating them carefully . . . that didn’t go the best. Also my sister Amanda helped bag with us all day, Thank-you Amanda! Also THANK-YOU to everyone who donated to help raise funds for the Eagan Ambassador program! The other event we went to was at Can Do Canines. It was such an eye opening experience to see these working dogs as Man’s Best friend to be Man’s Best Helper. Meagan, Silvia, Lilly, and I attended an Information Session. It was cool to hear an actual story from an owner of one of these dogs cause they do not just help you, they change someone’s life; as when someone looks at you, they don’t just see you, but you and a dog. It just makes people friendlier. The diabetic trained dogs can save lives on a daily basis as they are trained to tell diabetics when their blood sugar is low; while the hearing dogs will bring you to a noise source when they hear such as an alarm or knock on the door. And one of the best parts of the visit is the dogs who came were super fun to pet and cute too! Fun Fact about Lilly she loves dogs and was freaking out when we saw them. I also found out that dogs that do not make to graduation can be adopted if the training family does not want them; I really want to sign up for this! After the program ended, we got to go to one of the training rooms and I kept pressing a button on the wall that simulated a button that would open a handicap door and it turned on a light to show success for the dog. It was an amazing experience and I cannot wait to go back to attend a dog graduation! This is Ashley McCann your 2015-2016 Eagan Fun Feast Ambassador reporting
