Eagan Funfest Ambassadors Experience the Gift of Giving

Ambassador Emma Anderson Describes Shopping for the Toys 4 Military Kids Program

As we are moving into the holiday season I can’t believe how fast my first few months of being an Eagan Funfest Ambassador have gone. In the spirit of thanksgiving I am reminded how thankful I am for this incredible opportunity and everyone who has made this experience so special. This past week I kicked off the holiday season through some fun with my fellow ambassadors! Through Beyond the Yellow Ribbon and Toys 4 Military Kids, we helped shop for fun holiday gifts for local military families, specifically for the ages of 10-13. After arriving at the local Walmart, we learned our only instruction for shopping was to fill carts with great toys and most importantly to have fun- which we definitely did! Without further notice we got to work filling our carts with anything from crafts to board games and mini foosball tables. By the end of the night we had at least 10 carts full to the brim with toys and had gotten a few strange looks from the surrounding customers. With the help of a team of Walmart employees we finally got all our toys packed into vehicles, organized and ready to be wrapped for a military kid on Christmas day. This especially got me in the holiday spirit because there is nothing better than the warm feeling you get around the holidays from helping others enjoy a great holiday season. After all, I think giving is the most important aspect of Christmas whether that means time, gifts, love or even support. This experience was awesome and something I will remember for years as I am once again reminded of the true meaning of this wonderful holiday and the power of the gift of giving. Signing off and ready for more holiday fun, this is Emma Anderson, 2016-2017 Eagan Funfest Ambassador.
