Eagan Mailman Convicted In Jan. 6 Storming Of U.S. Capitol

Frank Bratjan Jr. was arrested and charged back in June, according to federal documents.

EAGAN, MN — A 28-year-old mailman from Eagan was convicted and sentenced in the Jan. 6, 2021 riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Frank Bratjan Jr. pleaded guilty on Sept. 14 to one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. He was sentenced to six months of probation, ordered to pay $2,000 in fines and restitution, and must do 60 hours of community service.

Bratjan was arrested and charged in June, according to federal documents.

Under the plea agreement, three additional charges against Bratjan were dismissed:

  • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(1)- Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds
  • 18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(2)- Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in a Restricted Building or Grounds
  • 40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(D)- Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building

Bratjan was seen on a security camera entering the Capitol through a window next to the Senate Wing Door, which was broken a few minutes earlier, according to authorities.

Bratjan is still employed by the U.S. Postal Service, the Star Tribune reported. He is one of the nine Minnesotans so far charged in the Capitol riots.
