Eagan Mayor Accused of Driving Drunk Blocks From His House
The mayor was found inside a car — still running — that was stuck on a snowbank near his Eagan home, police said.

EAGAN, MN — Police say Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire was drunk when the car he was driving went into a snowbank mere blocks from his house earlier this month, according to the criminal complaint obtained by Patch. The mayor is accused of driving with a blood-alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit, the complaint shows.
Maguire has been charged with driving while impaired and operating a motor vehicle with an alcoholic concentration of .08 or more. Both are gross misdemeanors.
Just after 8 p.m. Jan. 11, Eagan police responded to a report of a car stuck in a snowbank at Dakota Path and Shadow Creek Curve. An officer reported finding a car at the scene— still running — and spoke with a man identified as Maguire sitting in the driver's seat, the complaint says.

While speaking with the mayor, the officer smelled an odor of alcohol and noticed that Maguire had slow, slurred speech as well as bloodshot, watery, glassy eyes, according to the criminal complaint. Police said Maguire failed a Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and refused to perform other field sobriety tests.
Maguire was swaying and staggering and needed help walking and being seated into the squad car, the complaint states.
