While most of the community is celebrating the country’s independence, summer brings a decrease in food shelf donations and an increase in food shelf usage, especially by families with children who normally receive free and reduced lunch at school.

Lisa Horn, Eagan Resource Center Executive Director says, “Our Resource Centers have experienced a 50% increase in need for food support over a year ago.  We are hoping all parade-goers will remember those in need and bring a food donation.  When people give to the Eagan Resource Center, they can be guaranteed their food donation stays local and serves hungry families in their community.”

Jeff O’Keefe, store director, Cub Foods East  and Chris Bergsten, store director, Cub Foods West agree. “Cub Foods has a tradition of supporting the Eagan community,” says Jeff. “The Eagan 150th Anniversary food collection during last year’s parade was a tremendous success, thanks to the generosity of the community.”

Watch for the giant Cub Foods grocery cart in the Funfest parade! Volunteers will be walking alongside the display with grocery carts hoping to fill the two pick-up trucks and trailer in the procession. Food items may also be dropped off at the Pantry—the food distribution site of the Eagan Resource Center—located at 3904 Cedar Grove Parkway.
