Record Crowd Turns Out For Ice Cream and Fire Trucks in Eagan
The 19th annual ice cream social was held Thursday at the new Eagan Fire Safety Center.
Eagan Fire Chief Mike Scott said the turnout for Thursday's Ice Cream Social to benefit the Eagan Volunteer Fire Department was easily double that of previous years.
Scott guessed that the visibility of the new station along busy Yankee Doodle Road, and people's desire to see the new building, contributed to the larger-than-expected turnout.
Cathy Sportelli, head of the Eagan Fire Auxiliary, said they had to make several trips to the store for more ice cream and other items.

The grounds and equipment bays were filled to overflowing with people, food and equipment. Popcorn, ice cream sundaes and fire hose practice are just some things that brought families out on a weather-perfect summer evening.
Proceeds from the event will go towards the purchase of a thermal imaging camera that allows firefighters to see victims in a smoke-filled building.
