Casper the Friendly Pup
This Cocker Spaniel is available for adoption through Secondhand Hounds.
When his first family found out Casper was deaf and vision impaired, they were quick to give him up and adopt a different puppy without disabilities. This was in Missouri, and, luckily for Casper, a rescue worker noticed the “free puppy” listing on Craigslist and worked to get Casper in a better situation, connecting with Edina-based rescue organization Secondhand Hounds.
Casper was born with albinism, presumably a result of poor breeding practices. He is believed to be completely deaf, so he is being trained with hand signals and touch commands. His vision is also blurry, but his foster parent Sarah Page said that doesn’t slow this puppy down a bit; he runs happily around the house and yard without bumping into anything.
Calling Casper a sweet and cuddly comedian who steals the heart of each person he meets, Page said, “Casper enjoys funny things like chasing his reflection in a window, jumping into the refrigerator when you open the door, and playing co-pilot during car rides.”
