Maggie Might be Your Match
This basset hound is available for adoption through Secondhand Hounds.
“Patience is the most important word when thinking of adopting her,” Jennifer Kaufman, Maggie’s foster parent said.
This is because Maggie, a basset hound, lived through something no pet should ever have to experience. After being kept in a hot metal shed, eight of her canine companions were shot by the breeder. Maggie was fortunately spared and was taken into the care of a shelter in Missouri before coming to the Edina-based rescue organization Secondhand Hounds.
Today, Maggie is learning to trust but remains tentative around new people and new situations. She is mostly house-trained and crate-trained. Kaufman believes she would do best in a home with another dog to help her adjust and a fenced yard where she will be safe without being tied up–something that still makes her nervous, though she is adjusting to walking on a leash.

“If you have the patience and love to give her she will develop in time to one of the best companions you could ever ask for,” Kaufman said.
