Nikon’s New Life

This American Staffordshire Terrier/Labrador Retriever mix is available for adoption through Secondhand Hounds.

Nikon’s foster parent Betsy Strachota doesn’t like to think about what his past may have been. The two-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier/Labrador Retriever mix came into the care of Edina-based rescue group Secondhand Hounds from an animal shelter south of the Twin Cities, after having been found wandering the streets.

His ears had been cut off and Strachota soon learned he was terrified of basements. But while Nikon may have been physically harmed, his spirit was untouched.

“Despite what may have happened in his past, Nikon is such a happy and sweet boy,” Strachota said.

Nikon still displays the energy of a puppy, so playtime is a must. He plays well with other dogs and gets along with everyone he meets, including children.

Nikon is mostly housebroken, knows the command for ‘sit’ and is learning the other basic commands as well. He gets excited and wants to run on walks, but Strachota said using a harness works well.
