Edina-based Abbey’s Hope Charitable Foundation participating in fourth annual Give to the Max Day on Nov. 15

EDINA, MINN. – Nov. 8, 2012 – Abbey’s Hope Charitable Foundation is one of many nonprofit organizations throughout the state that will once again ask Minnesotans to display their record-breaking generosity by donating to their favorite charities and schools online at www.GiveMN.org during the fourth annual “Give to the Max Day” on Nov. 15.

“Money donated to Abbey’s Hope will directly benefit our mission of promoting water safety and drowning prevention in the community, said Katey Taylor, co-founder of Abbey’s Hope and mother to Abbey Taylor, who died of complications from injuries due to an improperly maintained pool drain.

“We set single-day records for philanthropic giving in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and want to keep that streak going in 2012,” said Dana Nelson, executive director of GiveMN, which debuted in fall 2009 as the first-of-its-kind giving website and sponsors Give to the Max Day. “This is a day for us to come together as Minnesotans and show our support for the nonprofit organizations and schools that work to strengthen our communities.” 

During last year’s Give to the Max Day, 47,534 donors logged on to GiveMN.org. The result: $13.4 million raised for 3,978 Minnesota nonprofits, whose missions range from feeding the hungry, to protecting the environment, to promoting the arts. GiveMN hopes to again raise millions of dollars for thousands of nonprofits and schools, showcasing Minnesota’s unparalleled generosity to the world.

In 2012, GiveMN will offer several incentives to encourage donor participation in Give to the Max Day. Community members can support Abbey’s Hope and other local nonprofits and schools for an opportunity to win prize grants up to $12,500 as top donation earners. During Give to the Max Day 2012 Abbey’s Hope will be eligible for prize grants in the form of hourly “Golden Tickets” – an hourly drawing to add $1,000 to a donor’s donation, randomly selected from donors who gave during each hour of the event. One donor giving to a nonprofit and one donor to a K-12 public school will be drawn in the evening for a Super-sized Golden Ticket of $10,000 added to their donations.

About Abbey’s Hope:
Abbey’s Hope Charitable Foundation is a Minnesota nonprofit organization named after Abbey Taylor, the Edina, Minn., 6-year-old who died in 2008 as a result of injuries sustained in an improperly maintained pool drain cover.

The Foundation’s goal is to:

• Promote awareness of and education related to child safety issues, including educating pool owners, operators, inspectors, and the general public about the dangers of pool entrapment, evisceration and drowning and the need for physical inspections of pool equipment.
• Work with the pool and spa industry to improve the design of its products, packaging and warning labels, and assist in the development of product safety standards related to such products.
• Identify and provide support and assistance to organizations and programs that help educate parents, children, and pool and spa manufacturers about the prevention of entrapment and traditional forms of drowning.
