Mason Gibbons, 4-year-old son of Erica and John Gibbons of Edina, competed in the SCA Statewide Grade Level Chess Tournament on Feb. 25, representing Normandale Preschool in Edina.
This was Mason's first time playing in a tournament. He competed in the kindergarten bracket along with 21 other students. Mason took 6th place and received the Novice Trophy which is given to the player receiving the highest score, but who has never won a previous trophy.
The tournament was held at Capitol Hill Magnet School in St. Paul. Each player represents his or her school and Mason was proud to be representing Normandale Preschool
