Student's Art to Hang in U.S. Capitol

Visitation sophomore Caroline Mulligan, daughter of Don and Diane Mulligan of Edina, has been named the second place winner in the 2012 Congressional Art Competition hosted by Representative Betty McCollum. Caroline’s drawing, Self Portrait with Green Pencil, will hang in McCollum’s congressional office in Washington, D.C., for one year.

Caroline and other participants were honored on Monday, May 21, at an exhibit hosted by the College of Visual Arts. Caroline was also awarded a scholarship to attend a summer art class at the CVA.

Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition, entitled The Artistic Discovery Contest, is sponsored by the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each representative’s congressional district.  Caroline attends school in the Fourth Congressional District.
