Asthma in cats

Coughing is the most common clinical sign

If your cat is coughing, asthma may be the cause. Untreated asthma in cats leads to chronic scarring of the lungs and a condition that is like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in people. Diagnosis is made through x-rays with some help from blood tests. Coughing in dogs can be due to heart failure, but in cats, heart failure presents differently - fast breathing rate, weakness, poor appetite and usually no cough. If your cat is coughing, make an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam and testing.
