Be sure your dog runs on proper surfaces that are safe for their feet!

Dogs can develop sores on the pads of their feet from concrete. Make sure your pet plays on the correct surface to avoid injury!

Did you know that your dog can get paw pad sores from running too intensely on a paved surface?  The typical scenario for this type of injury is the dog that is crazy about ball chasing, and the owner that tosses the ball down the street, or in the parking lot one to many times.  The dog will come up lame, and when looking at the paws, you can see that several layers of pad have been eroded away.  This type of injury is very painful, and sometimes takes weeks to heal up.  A common sense way to avoid this is to throw the ball on a soft surface.  If your dog does experience paw pad abrasions, contact your vet.  She may need to have her feet bandaged until the sores heal up.
