Master Gardeners Showcase their Gardens for You
Visit a traditional storybook garden and a yard and garden in transition on the garden tour by master gardeners in Hennepin County.

Traditional and Transitional. These words capture two of the eleven gardens featured on the July14th Hennepin County Master Gardeners Learning Garden Tour.
Garden E theme: Storybook Garden. A charming front yard garden
with vintage flair will greet you when you visit this cottage. Unique conifers,
pretty pots, climbing vines, and handmade birdhouses set off by swirling
brickwork create a storybook setting. Note the variety of ground covers as you
walk around the yard. A selective eye and artful pruning keep the specimen
trees, vegetable beds, and perennials that fill the sloping yard looking their
best.

Garden F theme: Great Garden Expectations.
What happens to your front yard when a neighbor’s tree, a very large tree, has
to come down and they use your yard to haul it away? How do you transition your
front yard from full shade to full sun? Come and see this garden. This very
busy homeowner and master gardener demands a lot from her yard. A peaceful,
hidden sanctuary after a long day’s work, it also functions as a playground,
entertainment space, and laboratory! The perimeter is defined by an interesting
medley of woody and herbaceous plantings, including smoke bush, arctic willow,
hydrangea, goldenrod, quinine, and redbud. The nutritious veggies grown for her
family include, squash, beans, and okra, all part of the University of
Minnesota yearly seed trials.
