See these No-Mow to Low-Mow Gardens on July 14th
These gardens for shady yards and no-mow or low-mow lawns will give you lots of ideas that you can apply to your own yard.
Grass has been an integral part in the yards of many people. First you water. Then fertilize. Now you mow. Then water, fertilize, and mow again. Grass may be handy, but no-mow and low-mow grass is better than dandy.
Get out you say? See for yourself. Come and visit these two gardens featured on the 5th Annual Master Gardeners Learning Garden Tour and see for yourself.
Garden G theme: Lawn Be Gone. Got shade? This garden is made
for you. From the boulevard to the front AND backyard, this urban lot is
bursting with ideas for you to try in your own yard. Meet the master gardener
and author! Co-author of the recently published, “Decoding Gardening Advice, The Science Behind the 100 Most Common Recommendations,” this homeowner has torn out all but a small patch of her lawn to create more sustainable, woodland-inspired shade gardens, as well as sun-drenched perennial beds. Walk through the gardens and see how ground covers can be used as living mulch.

Garden H theme: Smart Gardening. No-mow to low-mow grass has
replaced much of the turf grass in this earth-friendly garden. Using rain
barrel and drip works irrigation further illustrates this gardener’s commitment
to smart water management and conservation in her gardening. You will find
unusual plants, such as fringe tree and black lace elderberry, as well as
plantings for attracting wildlife. Take a moment (or more!) to enjoy the
peaceful Japanese garden and water feature with its relaxing sound.
