Voting Now Open for the 4th Annual Edina Sculpture Exhibition at Three Locations

Voting is now open for the 4th Annual Edina Sculpture Exhibition at three locations: The Promenade, Grandview Square Park and 50th & France.

All 11 new sculptures have been installed for the 4th Annual Edina Sculpture Exhibition in three locations with the final two installations occurring this week.

The Edina Public Art Committee (EPAC) of the Edina Art Center (EAC) Board has been working really hard for the past five months to make sure that Edina has the best representative of sculptures on view for the public.

The 11 new artworks join several existing sculptures at The Promenade and Grandview Square Park to provide a diverse and exciting aray of sculptures for the public. We have kinetic sculptures, steel, rock, granite, bronze, realistic, modern and natural sculptures.

New this year is the 50th & France site thanks to a collaboration with the 50th & France Business Association. The sculptures are already creating a 'buzz' in the community. People stopped as installations occured and spoke with artists, Ms. Ring and took photos with their phones. (See existing photos on this blog.)

Voting is open as of today. Each person has the opportunity to vote for their one favorite sculpture. You don't have to be a resident of Edina to vote. All artists receive stipends for the loan of their sculptures for the year. Additionally, cash prizes are given for First, Second and Third place winners in the 2012-2013 People's Choice Awards.  In addition to the cash prizes, the three winning artists are invited to extend their sculpture display for an additional year. Voting is open through Sept. 30th.

Ballots are located at all three locations (see photos) in clever brown ballot boxes in a modern design in the figure of a person. The boxes were made by Bob Kojetin of Edina. It is important for each person to sign his or her name, without which the ballot cannot be counted. Only one vote per person, please.

A reception honoring the sculptors and art patrons will be Wednesday, June 20th, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pinstripes, 3849 Gallagher Dr., Edina.

In addition to the welcome by Lois Ring, EPAC Chair, artists will speak about their sculptures, the process and inspiration that led to the designs. Mayor Jim Hovland will also speak.
