Bud is Looking for a Buddy

This cattle dog mix is available for adoption through Secondhand Hounds.

This cattle dog mix called Bud came under the care of Secondhand Hounds at the beginning of the summer from the Lake Traverse Reservation. Bud is close to 2 years old and details of his puppyhood are largely unknown, but he’s been friendly and well-adjusted in his new surroundings.

RyAnne Quirk is currently taking care of Bud and says he’s been a breeze. Quirk owns Fun City Dogs, a dog daycare and boarding business, so Bud spends his days playing with the dogs at daycare and his nights boarding with the dogs in a kennel-free setting with couches, dog beds and a staff supervisor. Bud is happy, house-trained, and great with both dogs and children.

“He’s having a good time but he’d like to go home and be with a family,” Quirk said.

Don’t picture yourself with a dog named Bud? That’s okay, Bud doesn’t seem too attached to the name either, Quirk said. She prefers to call him Catalina, and said he seems more responsive to that name as well.

Quirk acknowledges Catalina might be more of a girl’s name, but she said she thinks of it as a place and—either way—the pup seems to like it.
