Edina Boys Basketball Ups Record to 5-0

Hornets down visiting St. Paul Central, 77-61, in Friday night hoops matchup.

A 77-61 win over visiting St. Paul Central on Friday night improved the Edina boys basketball team to 5-0 on the season with two games to go until Christmas.

The Hornets held a six-point lead with the score 38-32 at halftime, yet outscored the Minutemen 39-29 in the second half to surge to the comfortable victory in the non-conference matchup.

Four Edina players put up double-sigit scoring results, led by Philip DeBerg's game-high 20-point effort. Chris Thompson put up 19 points, while Graham Woodward and Brendan Canova each logged 13 points apiece on the night.

Next up for the Hornets is a Monday night home game against Hudson, WI, with a 7:15 p.m. scheduled tip-off. Edina closes out the pre-holiday portion of the schedule with a non-conference road game at Chaska at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday night.

With the Edina boys swimming and diving teams on the road for invitationals at Maple Grove and Bloomington Jefferson on Saturday, the Hornets girls basketball team stayed at home to win a  2:30 p.m. matchup against Rochester John Marshall.

Tonight, the Edina boys hockey team continues hosting its Holiday Classic Tournament with a final-round matchup against Eden Prairie at 8:30 p.m. at Braemar Arena. The Hornets girls also face the Eagles, traveling to the Eden Prairie Community Center for a 7 p.m. Lake Conference showdown.
