Edina Falls to Eastview in State Semifinal

Eastview's attack fought through Edina's defense to end the Hornets' winning streak.

Last night Edina suffered its first defeat of the postseason in a crushing 15-6 loss to top-ranked Eastview. The loss came on the heels of an astounding run for the Hornets, who finished the regular season 3-9-1, beating defending state champs Benilde St. Margaret's in the section semifinal.

The game got off to a rocky start for Edina, with Eastview scoring three times in the first quarter until a pass from Danny Burke to Danny Regan opened up a scoring opportunity with 28 seconds left in the quarter.

The Hornets started what looked to be a comeback in the second quarter, matching Eastview’s attack with three goals each, including another Burke-to-Regan play.

The third quarter sealed Edina’s fate however. Eastview’s attack, led by Ryan McNamara and Tanner Hamill, shot five goals into Edina’s net, killing whatever momentum the Hornets had built in the second quarter. Edina midfielder Richard McGowan scored once in the third.

The final quarter went largely the same as the third, as Eastview’s attack continued to feed the ball to McNamara and Tamill.
