Edina Family Center Coordinator Receives Literacy Council Award

The Minnesota Literacy Council has honored Mary Streier, the Edina Family Center school readiness coordinator, at an event honoring adult literacy volunteers in Minnesota, the school district announced.

Streier received the Community Partnership Honorable Mention award May 22 at The Loft for working with Metro South to provide English as a Second Language services to Edina. The two have worked together for seven years to help non-native speakers.

“I think this award speaks to the power of partnerships,” a news release quoted Streier. “We need to be innovative and think outside the box in order to serve families and their young children. We can't do it alone and Metro South can't do it alone, so there are a lot of players working to make this happen.”
