Edina Lacrosse Dominates Bloomington Kennedy

The Hornets had a strong start to their section tournament.

Last night, the boys lacrosse team began their section tournament campaign with a huge 17-4 win against Bloomington Kennedy.

After shutting Bloomington down 6-0 in the first quarter, Edina only allowed one goal in the second quarter as the Hornets defense held off the Eagles attack.

The Eagles managed to score three more times in the second half as Edina began to play its second and third strings, although the Hornets were able to continue pressing the attack, with senior attacker Derek Todd scoring eight times, including a hat trick in the third quarter alone.

Other highlights of the game included five assists for senior attacker Danny Burke and nine ground ball recoveries for junior midfielder Willie Dugan.

The first round section win comes at the end of a rocky season for the Hornets, as the team was plagued with injuries. The varsity team entered section play with a 3-9-1 record.
