Edina Police to Receive Award for Actions During Duplex Fire

Officer David Boosalis and Sgt. Dan Conboy helped people out of a burning duplex in September.

The Edina Police Department is honoring Officer David Boosalis and Sgt. Dan Conboy with its internal Departmental Commendation Award for their efforts saving two people during a September duplex fire.

Boosalis was the first to respond to the West Shore Drive fire. He went into the basement to help an elderly man exit the home and bring him to the ambulance for oxygen.

“Officer Boosalis was aware of the danger and potential risks, but rather than wait for help, he chose to risk his safety for the safety of another,” a news release quoted Police Chief Jeff Long.

While Boosalis was on one side of the duplex, Conboy was on the other. He saw a woman standing 15 feet from the doorway who wouldn’t move and didn’t appear to be entirely coherent. He then went into the duplex and escorted her out of the home.

“Although the job of a police officer comes with inherent risks, Sgt. Conboy’s quick thinking to enter the house and retrieve the residents from the main floor … may have saved lives,” the statement quoted Long.

Boosalis and Conboy will receive their awards at a City Council meeting this summer.
