Elvis Has Entered the Building

This German Shepherd/Catahoula mix is available for adoption through Secondhand Hounds.

The German Shepherd/Catahoula mix now known as Elvis walked into a supper club in Wisconsin earlier this year as a hungry, malnourished stray with Heartworm. He walked out a dog with a second chance.

From Wisconsin he came to Minnesota and into the care of Secondhand Hounds and his foster parents, Brent Hanus and Katrina Volker. Hanus and Volker took him home, gave him a bath, got his nails clipped and got him started on Heartworm treatment. Three months later, Elvis is now healthy, well fed and happy.

Elvis gets along great with the two-year-old black lab, cat and five-year-old girl at his home. He is playful but polite and not territorial, readily sharing food and water with the other dog in the home. And though he’s not a small pup, he’s an affectionate one.

“I call him a really big lap dog,” Hanus said.

Hanus also said his only concern about Elvis is finding him a good home.
