Wood Lake Nature Center is a recognized leader in providing green community events like the Urban Wildland Half Marathon and 5K Race. The Birds and Birdie Tournament promises to be another such event and the greenest golf tournament of its size in the state.
The Friends of Wood Lake started in 1991 in order to help provide financial and political support to the City of Richfield’s one and only nature center. Since then it has put on 22 benefit dinners, 18 goofy golf tournaments and one real golf tournament to benefit this unique and vital 150 acre park in Richfield.

Over the years it has become more and more important to ‘Walk the Talk” so the events to benefit the Wood Lake, and its mission to create environmentally educated citizens, are getting greener with time.

The second annual 18 hole Birds and Birdie Golf Tournament will be both green and educational. Held at the Audubon International Certified Braemar Golf Course in Edina on September 21st, the tournament features a live wild bird display, organic and locally sourced dinner buffet and compostable water cups. For the $135.00 fee golfers will get a lunch voucher, a cloth goodie bag and an organic cotton hat with the tournament logo on it. The staff of Braemar are working hard to make their practices greener too like using all electric carts for the day.
100% of the tournament proceeds benefit the programs and facilities of Wood Lake Nature Center. Participation fees are $135 for golf and dinner, $100 for golf only or $35 for dinner only. Current FOWL Members receive two free mulligans. The mulligans are transferable and may be shared with friends and family. Mulligans will go out in an email or may be picked up at the nature center.
