Award-winning Minnesota author Connie Claire Szarke will present A Stone for Amer at Barnes & Noble Galleria, June 4 at 7:00 p.m. - 3225 W. 69th Street, Edina, MN 55435

Incorporating period music, visuals, and novel excerpts, the author will discuss elements of fiction as they pertain to her new book. This presentation, followed by Q & A and signing, will be of interest to aspiring writers, readers, students, and teachers.

Dave Wood of the National Book Critics Circle, syndicated columnist, and former book editor for the Star Tribune, writes, “A fascinating drama of the Midwestern ethos, A Stone for Amer is a very welcome prequel to Szarke’s Midwest Book Award finalist, Delicate Armor.

And, “In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee created Scout; in True Grit, Charles Portis created Mattie…Now along comes Minnesotan Connie Claire Szarke, who created another delightful young narrator named Callie in Delicate Armor. This startlingly good first novel opens in the 1950s.”

Delicate Armor, a finalist in both Young Adult and Historical fiction, is appropriate for ages 12 and up.

And now, A Stone for Amer:

Will Lindstrom is only sixteen when he and his father leave the comfortable routine of their family farm in southern Minnesota. They are launched, via the Transcontinental Railway, into the wilds of eastern Montana to claim the body of Uncle Amer. The year is 1919.  Decades later, an elderly Will recounts their difficult journey, pays homage to the life that was, and reveals controversial truths about his beloved uncle and the prejudice that killed him.
