Fortune Magazine has chosen the company that owns Southdale Center as its most real estate admired company, according to an article that appeared in the magazine’s March 18 issue.

Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group Inc., which also owns Maplewood Mall in St. Paul, was chosen after Fortune’s survey partner Hay Group asked executives, directors, and analysts in the real estate industry to rate companies on nine criteria.

  • Innovation
  • People management
  • Use of corporate assets
  • Social responsibility
  • Quality of management
  • Financial soundness
  • Long-term investment

  • Global competitiveness

Simon ranked first among real estate companies in every category but global competitiveness, for which it ranked third.
