(GALLERY) Edina Soccer Teams Compete at USA Weekend Cup

Nine Edina teams competed in the USA Cup tournament over the weekend in Blaine.

Nine Edina-based soccer teams competed on Friday through Sunday at the USA Cup tournament at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

Boys and girls teams ranging from the Under-9 to Under-15 age group competed in the tournament. 

Five teams competed in the U9 and U10 levels, which were non-competitive jamborees.

The Edina Premier Swarm U15 girls team led the way at the tournament. The team went 3-0-0 in pool play, defeating CV Fire 2-0, Green Bay 4-0 and the PTSC Ninjas 2-1.

The Edina Sting U11 boys team went 2-0-1, beating Edgars 8-2 and Gitchi Gummi 7-0 while losing to Green Bay 2-1. The Edina Flash U11 boys team went 1-2-0 at the tournament, beating Centennial 2-1 and losing to West Fargo 5-1 and Superior 2-1.

The Edina Swarm U15 boys team went 2-0-1. The Swarm beat Oak Brook 2-0 and Thunder Bay 4-1 but lost to RRSC Red 1-0.

Inclement weather played a key role in the USA Cup’s Weekend Tournament, as games were postponed and shortened on Friday due to rain, then games were postponed for three hours on Sunday due to a rising heat index.
