Great Volunteer Opportunity: Be an Academic Advocate or Mentor for STRIVE

EdinaGiveAndGo.org wants to connect Edina community members with great opportunities to help students succeed inside and outside of the classroom. STRIVE is a program that we would like to link volunteers with, because it is important opportunity for students, and very rewarding for volunteers!

STRIVE (Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) is an in-school class for students identified by Edina High School staff who need and want help to improve their academic performance.  The program is a collaboration between Edina High School and the Rotary Clubs of Edina, and also involves many community volunteers. The course includes weekly mentor connection, speakers, post-secondary planning, leadership skills, service, and accountability to an academic advocate. In order to enroll, juniors and seniors must commit to improvement in the areas of academics, attendance and behavior.

STRIVE meets first hour at Edina High School which is 8:30-9:25 am in Room 377 B.  The schedule is generally as follows:

Mondays:  Speakers 2 times per month, Service 2 times per month
Tuesdays:  Academic Advocates
Wednesdays:  Curriculum taught by teacher
Thursdays:  ACCESS  (post-secondary planning support) for seniors and course specific tutoring
Fridays:  Mentors

We are seeking volunteers to act as Academic Advocates and Mentors.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please connect with us at EdinaGiveAndGo.org and fill out our Volunteer Form!
