Did you know that dental disease is a common problem in Hedgehogs? Dental tartar, gingivitis periodontal disease and tooth root infections all contribute to sore mouths and difficulty eating. Cancer can affect the gums also, leading to loosening of teeth and pain. A yearly exam done with the aid of a gas anesthetic called Sevoflurane allows us to examine the mouth for disease, as well as do a complete physical exam. Hedgehogs need to see the veterinarian annually just like a cat or dog!
