Hockey Team Raises Money through Polar Plunge

The Edina Junior Gold A Team took part in the South Metro Polar Bear Plunge on Feb. 25.

Donning their trademark golden jerseys alongside green bowler hats, bowties and headbands, members of Edina's Junior Gold A Hockey Team took part in the South Metro Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Hundreds crowded around Crystal Lake in Burnsville to watch friends, neighbors and complete strangers brave the icy waters to raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota. 

Event coordinator Megan Lewis said 940 people registered to take a one-time dip in the chilly water for charity, raising $200,000 at the south metro event alone. There are 18 total Polar Bear Plunge events in Minnesota.

The Edina plungers—whose team name was "Feel the Sting"—managed to raise $2,365 for the cause via their donation website. Even Head Coach Bill Smith got in on the action.

The Junior Gold A Team is comprised of seniors at , and is part of the Edina Hockey Association.

On a similar note, the  will be taking part in the Eden Prairie Polar Plunge on March 10. are currently raising money on their team site, with $3,260 of their $4,150 goal already secured.
