It's finally hummingbird season at Tangerine House of Design!
A few years ago I purchased two hummingbird feeders with the express purpose of attracting hummingbirds for photos. I had been in Itasca State park and I visited an area with a number of feeders - and a lot of hummingbirds! Watching them flutter and hover to drink the "necture," was so cool. I had never witnessed them before and I was hooked. Like a lot of things however, I got really busy and never put out the feeders until late in the summer. Probably too late for birds that summer. This spring I decided to try again. After making a batch of simple syrup I wanted several weeks but no hummingbird sightings. I was convinced I was doing it wrong when one Monday night there was a flash in the yard and a few minutes later we had our first hummingbird feeding. I was so excited I grabbed my camera, a tripod and my remote shutter release. I only had to wait for about 20 min and our little guy/girl? came back. I fired off about 20 shots and got one that I really like. If they come back again this summer I may try a backdrop and a studio light to get an interesting image for competition. I hope you enjoy!
Just a reminder - tomorrow will be July 1 and the start of Save-A-Bull Sessions at the studio. All pet sessions in July will have the studio fee waived for a donation to Save-A-Bull. The images will go into thier 2015 Calendar - voting for the coverdog later in the summer! All dogs are welcome to be photographed but only pitbulls will be in the calendar! Online registration is now open for Save-A-Bull Sessions starting July 1st.
