This year’s theme is anniversary celebrations, honoring the 50th anniversary of the Edina Crime Prevention Fund, First John Philip Sousa Memorial Band and the Human Rights & Relations Commission, along with the 100th anniversary of the League of Women Voters.

The parade organizers also are hosting a photo contest, encouraging people to send in photos by July 2 of their home or themselves dressed up in Independence Day style. Learn more at Edinaparade.org.

Only sparklers, fountains, ground spinners, snappers and similar fireworks are legal in Minnesota. Fireworks that explode or shoot into the air are banned in the state. The Edina Fire Department urges people to use caution, supervise children closely and make sure to set off any fireworks away from trees, houses, people or animals. Spent fireworks should be placed in a bucket of water.

The Edina Community Foundation, which puts on the parade, plans to bring back the live parade and fireworks in 2021.
